"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever" -- Hebrews 13:8. Jesus is evident in all of scripture, even in the book of Genesis that I am reading with some friends currently. I am convinced that if we let Him guide us, we will follow Him to the cross, where we will need to die to ourselves and be raised new, in Him. "Come, follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men."-- Matthew 4:19. We are raised to new life with a new occupation: fishing! We die to ourselves, and we are raised to a new life with the overwhelming desire to follow Jesus and to share our joy with others, and to tell them the good news about salvation. I used to enjoy fishing for little slimy wiggling fish, and maybe still do sometimes, but it's not nearly as wonderful as being a fisherman on Jesus' team.
One thing I have realized, though, as I read through the Bible, is that it is essential to just not merely read about Him, but rather I must talk to Him, listen to Him, believe in Him, respond to Him, trust in Him. He is more than a historical figure, a name, a book,... He is The Way, The Truth, and The Life to me. There is nothing else for me in this world. Today is Good Friday, and while I have done many things during the day, like attend meetings, conduct business, shop, talk a walk, and other stuff, I have had nothing on my mind today really except Jesus, and Him crucified. He died for my sins, that I may live forever with Him. How can I fathom this? I know I don't deserve it, and didn't earn it. I just am stunned that He loved me so much. How can I not give Him the rest of my life? I can never pay Him back, ever. But He wants me to tell others, love them, feed the hungry, clothe the naked, give shelter to the homeless, and lots of other things too, like comfort the brokenhearted, and preach the gospel to all nations. May you find Him if you don't know Him, yet. May you know Him more nearly and dearly if you do know Him!
